Ready for Winter! (Orwo N74+ Pushed to 800)

Portrait of an elderly sitting on a platform adjacent to a shop. It was evening, and I asked for a photo. He agreed.

Shot nearby my home (in Ajmer), in an area previously famous by the name "Chungi Naka", having a multitude of stores and makeshift vegetable carts (fresh from nearby villages!).

During my childhood, I used to visit this area a lot. Now, with the construction of a new flyover, the area has been cleared. It has lost its active identity (at least to me!). Most of the shops are gone. However, as evening approaches, people socialize near shops and have tea-chai-bidi, as usual. But very few people know me now (penalty for growing up and moving, alas!).

Shot on Orwo N74+ film pushed to 800 with a 50mm Nikon.

Man with an Electric Tuktuk (Orwo N74+ Pushed to 800)

Portrait of a tuk-tuk driver waiting for the next ride. Battery-powered tuk-tuks (like teslas!?) are becoming quite common mainly in the northern part of India. He was parked near JLN road (Ajmer, Rajasthan). I asked him for a photo. He gently nodded his head. It was dark, so I used a built-in flash of my Nikon F80 (with 50 mm).

Development Notes:

In my first test, I shot Orwo at EI 320 and developed at 400. I was impressed with the quality and details. The contrast was low. This time I thought of pushing it at 800 by underexposing it by 1 stop. The film pushes normally, with some visible grain and slight loss of detail in shadow areas. The technical notes are as follows:

Film: Orwo N74+ shot at EI 640 developed for 800.
Developer: HC110 Dilution H at 20ยบ C. Developed for 30 min. Continuous agitation+inversion for first 60 sec, then 5 agitation+inversion every 3 min.
(If you agitate every min, develop for 20 min.)

Helping Hand (Orwo N74+ Film)

Helping Hand: The whole idea was to thematically capture hands, and the way they serve people, direct or indirect.

I also wanted to test a new black and white film, Orwo, from East Germany.

Presenting, a set of 10 images taken during first week of November 17 in Malleshwaram, Bangalore.

Development Notes

  • Film: 35 mm Orwo N74+ 400
  • Film EI: 320
  • Developer: HC110 Dilution H 13.5 min.
